The new year is recently upon us and you know what that means? New year, new me. Most of us have probably already experienced various forms of inspirational, motivational and success driving anecdotes via social media, email campaigns, podcasts and more. As a result, each of us may experience these fleeting feelings of drive and intrinsic motivation to become the best versions of ourselves. However, without proper application of habits and strategy most people will end up falling well short of their initial goals.
In order to reach success you must employ a two-fold strategy of practicing positive habits and maintaining these habits over a prolonged period of time. Anybody can have the drive and motivation to succeed for a few days, weeks or even months. Few people can maintain this level of optimism long-term, therefore they must rely upon external strategies to keep themselves going. On the other hand, individuals can do all the work in the world, but if they aren’t doing things correctly they will never reach their full potential.
In this piece, we’ll dive into how you can train yourself to succeed using both mental and physical strategies. We’ll give you the blueprint, it’s up to you to use it.
Start with the Vision
If you want to achieve any goal in life, it all begins with a vision. In order to become the person you want to be, you must first imagine you are already successful. Sort of the “fake it until you make it” strategy comes into play.
Ask yourself a few questions to get into the right mindset:
- What does the person you want to be do on a daily basis?
- How do they act?
- What does a typical day look like?
- What does their free time look like?
Start becoming that person from a mental standpoint. Every single detail of your day should re-enact steps taken to mold yourself into the best version of your future self. Dress for success, listen to inspirational music and podcasts, even style your hair the way you want. Think of how you would spend your free time, what types of food you would eat and what your daily schedule would look like.
Now that you have the vision, it’s time to start taking action.
Plan a Strategy
All the motivation and dreaming in the world will lead you nowhere without a proper plan to achieve it. Start looking towards successful people in your life or otherwise that have already reached the level of success you strive to obtain. Write down all the daily routines and practices they follow day-by-day to reach this level of success.
Take mental notes of how others have reached success including:
- What kinds of thoughts do they routinely have?
- How do they start their day?
- What types of foods do they eat?
- Do they have a regular workout routine?
As you take note of all of this, consider what types of thoughts this person has. Are they in a constant mental state of abundance and improvement? Or do they tend to question their self-worth and abilities? In all likelihood, they try to maintain a positive mindset even when times become difficult.
Once you have a clear blueprint of how others achieve success and maintain this level of obtainment, you can begin to employ your own strategies.
Take Action
Once you understand what it takes to reach a certain level of success, begin to take the proper steps needed to achieve success. Maybe this involves waking up at 4 or 5 am to get a workout in at the gym before sunrise. Perhaps it involves keeping some type of journal or gratuity log every day. Get out of your comfort zone even if it involves doing something you’ve never experienced before such as meditation or yoga.
The manifestation of your goals will go a long way towards achieving it. Think you are already the wealthy, successful, attractive person you always know you can be. It won’t always be easy and there will definitely be days where you want to give up. The true challenge is overcoming any thoughts of questionability in yourself and continue aspiring for goals even when times become tough.
Stop making excuses for not reaching the highest level of success. Stop sleeping in instead of getting up to get that workout in. Read that book instead of mindlessly watching reality TV shows on the couch every night. To get what others have, you have to constantly do what others don’t.
Never Quit
Understanding how to reach a goal is a lot more difficult than actually reaching that goal. Many people understand the process, few people can actually take the proper steps to get there. You will undoubtedly face challenges, obstacles and naysayers along the way. Early mornings, late nights and regular sacrifices are all part of the journey needed in order to reach success.
You need to buckle up, keep going and do the work necessary even when times become difficult. Some days you will wake up feeling like you can conquer the world. Other times you may question your self worth or abilities. You may want to reach for that late night ice cream cone instead of grabbing some carrot sticks. Hitting that snooze button a couple more times may not seem like a big deal, but when it all comes down to it you’re the only one truly in charge of your destiny.
You can’t only do things when you feel like doing them, you have to force yourself to do them even when you aren’t in the most motivated or optimized state of mind. Nobody else can do the work for you, either do what needs to be done or else you will never reach your full goals and potential.
